I was doing some christmas shopping when I noticed that google rolled out a mobile product update.
Being the software junkie that I am, I immediately started the update. One of the updates that caught my eye was a mobile version of google docs.
Any of my regular readers knopw what a big fan I am of google docs and how many times I have mentioned that my life would be complete if I could work on my documents from my blackberry.
Unfortunaty after the 10-minute update was complete I discovered that the.mobile google docs experience was not nearly as orgasmic as I had worked myself up to imagine.
First of all, spreadsheets are read only. I guess that is forgiveable since writing a spreadsheet control for the blackberry OS would actually take time and (god forbid) cost money. Having said that, making a half-assed version of google docs is unforgivable. I think that they probably somehow intend to make the documents editable, since there are a few edit this page links (nobe of which work) but as far as I could see this is just a silly web-based hack. Something that I could do in 5 minutes with a couplew lines of PHP and the writely APIs.
I could rant forever but I need some coffee.

Last night we had our office holiday party at Roxys. Pictures are up on flickr.
It was a great time the only downside was the fact that I was still recovering from the previous nights party and due to certain bowel conditions felt it prudent not to overdo it.
I know that was a crazy long multiple run on paragraph. Blackberry should come up with a way to insert commas with one hand.
Beautiful winters day today and thanks to my constraint I am feeling pretty good. Two days of work left then a four day weekend followed by three days to prepare for our second of jan product launch.

Its christmas party week.
Monday: bowling league party
Tuesday: condo party
Wednesday: office party
Thursday: clematis party
Friday: mias preschool party.
My social schedule is full.
I have been thinking of starting on a few secret writing projects.
I miss the days when I had the time to sit down and write all day. Chanelling my creative energy into wordsmithing rather than just allocating the five minute walk to work.
Maybe when I retire.
I am discovering that I can write more in the walk to work than I did when I got started. Yay for onr finger typing. And for not being run over by the traffic.

I was pretty happy with both tinman and I am Legend. I’ve been getting into hulu.com these days, and despite all the naysayers its a great way for the networks to reach their non cable subscribers.
The ads are well targeted and short and the quality is better than the streaminmg video on the other network sites.
Talking about ads I was put off by the Ford and Apple product placement in I am legend. Its one thing when you get it for free its another thing when you pay 12 bucks. For it.
Had a good weekend now time to get back to work

The last few days I’ve found myself watching crime dramas on tv. Tuesday it was NCIS and last night I had the unfortunate experience of watching CSI NY.
The shows are terrible, the mysteries are stupid, dialog is forced, plots are shallow, and the gross body factor is off the charts.
Now I have never been someone to complain about gore. When there are redeeming qualities a healthy amout of gore can be very entertaining. Having said that pointless gore is boring and stupid.
Arrived at work… End rant.

The thing that stood out to me the most about superbad is the lengthy dialogs. It would be interesting to see the difference in dialog length between the different genres of movies and if/how dialog length correlates to ratings. It wasn\’t shakespeare, but what I think made the movie interesting is that I remember having many of the same discussions not so many years ago. Acting was good, drunk scenes were the best. Very enjoyable.

After I upgraded the firmware on my blackberry 8700 the interweb was gone.
I called tmobile and they said “we’d be happy to fix that for you, mr wormus … Check your device now and see if you have the internet icon in your application menu”.
Sure enough they dropped it right in. If only computer tech support was this simple.

Not sure if what I clicked through told me not to tell anyone about anything, but I just got my beta invite to Xcerion.
Xcerion is yet another OS-in-a-browser, although they prefer to call it “Cloud Computing” or “XML Internet OS”. I assume they say XML since that is probably the data transfer layer, as well as the file save format, regardless advertising an “XML OS” is totally 1997.
The interface only works in IE (Cross Browser compatibility is coming soon) and is pretty slow until everything loads up (see it’s just like a real OS). Once everything is going it seems to be pretty snappy.
I’m getting back to work

Oh yes, did I mention it was very pretty?

And it is bigger than google (the search engine, not the sushi eating, mobile platform/advertising empire).
The problem with google is that it in its quest to build an organic search engine database it gave too much power to the anonymous website and ignored many of the established content providers. When I say established I donmt mean traditional content and media providers I mean any business or person who creates something unique…
My solution will change everything - but if I say anymore I will have to kill you and then I will loose the 37cents I make a day from ads on this site

Spent the evening yesterday at the first annual “margarita ball” at roxys.
It was a nice event which also doubled as the first dueling piano show.
Very entertaining. I wish I had my camera as it would have made great pictures.

I played with picnik for a few minutes this morning. It was fairly interesting, a but slow and laggy, but not bad. Was a bit disappointed that as a pro member of flickr I don’t get the premium functionality of picnik.

Where I was on a bus and Chuck Norris got on and sat in a back seat. Everyone on the bus clapped for a few seconds and then ignored him.
I wonder if there is any symbolism to be gathered. Maybe I’m going to kick ass today. In the dream I noticed that his beard was a little unkept and longer than usual.
Does this symbolize that my asskicking days are over and I am now destined to sit in the back of the technology bus enjoying the momentary applause for the select few who remembered me “back in the day”?
All this introspection caused me to walk into a lamp post. I uploaded sanibel pictures on flickr this morning.
Peace out.

We got home at 10pm last night from a two-night trip to Sanibel island.
Sanibel is on the gulf of mexico and the small resort (Caribe) we stayed at had a beautiful beachj where we watched the sun rise and set (pictures coming soon).
During the day we biked through the largly untouched nature preserves and chased dolphins with our kayak.
The experience was beyond belief and we can’t wait to get bach.

First game: 151
Second game: 179
Third game: 171
That might not be the greatest news for regular bowlers, but add a 102 handicap on top of that and you’ll see why I’m bragging.
I also won $40
