MSN support hardwired into your routers

MSN Next to Hook Up with Reuters

I had the shock of my life when I read the title of the article as “MSN next to Hook up with Routers“.

But seriously, would be a rather devious scheme, to buy a hardware company and hardwire support of your network into it, somehow giving you a huge advantage. And, they could probably get away with it too.

Well, better not give them any ideas.

The Truth about Charlie

Truth About Charlie, The (2002)

Fairly good movie, interesting plot. I was dead tired so had a hard time following in the middle, but then got up and grabbed a snack which perked me up a bit.

The directing and comic elements were pretty good, well, different at least. Would like to see the original some day.

Google Ranking

Google Search: microsoft patent plugin

So a link to this blog comes in 6th place for a search for “microsoft patent plugin”. It’s pretty weird that a brand new blog like mine would rank so high.

I guess it’s because the linkage promiscuity that bloggers participate in pushes the google ranking up.

Oh, well, I’m not complaining. Now if people just started commenting we’d be in business ;)

Yahoo IM Protocol and Third Party Clients

I was just wondering how much (if any) Yahoo and MSN really lose from third party clients. I mean I use Yahoo protocol in Gaim, and if someone doesn’t chat, I don’t usually tell them to use Gaim (if they don’t already chat they are prolly clueless n00bs, who I don’t want to make life complicated for), I point them to yahoo and have them download and use the standard client.

I wouldn’t use the Yahoo client if you paid me to. Until I discovered Gaim I just stuck to IRC and Xchat, but because their Yahoo’s protocol was open (enough) and Gaim was implementing it, I used it and suggested friends who didn’t chat to do likewise, I even converted people from MSN for that matter.

I should be their best friend, but now I can’t chat with the people that I converted to Yahoo. Oh well, time to tell them about Gaim and fire up Jabber.

phpbb2pnmod — Is it a fork or isn’t it?

phpbb 2 Postnuke Module :: You know you want it

So I helped setup a Postnuke site for a friend using the phpbb2 postnuke module from phpbb2pnmod. The visual editing mode was giving the users of that site a considerable amount of grief, so I went to the phpbb2 irc room and started asking questions.

I had no idea that phpbb2pnmod and phpbb2 were so different, so I ended up firing a bunch of questions at the phpbb2 developers about a product that wasn’t even theres.

Integrating software into another product is one thing, but if you’re acatually going to add more features into your product, then you really should do a proper fork, and rebrand if at all possible. Having 2 phpbb codebases is just confusing.

To top it off, the phpbb2pnmod guys ripped off the look from phpbb.com making the sites almost indistinguishable. BAH!

More Gaim-Blogger

So gaim-blogger only seems to support the Blogger API, not MovableType that I use. Will need to look into this further, but will stick to blogging via the MT interface, which is pretty nice.

Oh, wait… this says that MT is fully Blogger API compatible. Will save the testing for later, gotta get on with my day.

Gaim-Blogger

gaim-blogger – Home

Blogging through Gaim. Gotta give that a shot.

In other IM news, YahooIM has cut off third-party clients, so we’ll just have to be offline until the nice people at Gaim can crack the authentication mechanism.

For the record my MSN/Yahoo ID is ‘rented_page’ my ICQ/AIM ID is 5342344.

Save Kika

Save Kika

A web site dedicated to Kika, who was born with spina bifida and as a result is paralyzed from the waist down.

A heartwarming story of the miracles that surrounded her birth and the faith that helped her parents not only pull through this trying time, but go on to do missionary work in Mexico.

Interesting links in the links section, as well as a blog, and paypal donation page.

Slackware 9.1

Get to Know Slackware 9.1

I’m not going to turn this into a /. by annoucing every incremental update to a piece of software. I just saw this review when I was browsing through /. and thought this paragraph was quite funny.

Slackware is my new favorite operating system along with FreeBSD, Windows Server 2003 and Mac OS X.

This guy is clever, he will go far ;)
