What makes a blog popular?
What makes a blog drift to the top of these lists? What makes people come to a specific blog, I don’t know why I read the blogs that I do, I guess it’s a ballance between somewhat interesting and continually updated.
Personally, I don’t go for the blogs that have a whole lot of the authors opinions, presented in pages of rants. I read agonist.org because of the content, and the short captions. The other day I landed at what’s-his-name from “Cathedral and the Bazzar”, (quick google) yeh Eric Raymond. I’ve enjoyed his papers on Free Software, but after reading a few of his blog entries, I was somewhat perplexed. For someone to make so much sense when talking about Software development, yet have such misplaced (though obviously well thought through) ideas about religion (he seems to hate it all) was a bit surprising for me. But hey, everyone has a right to their opinion.
Anyway, I was just looking at my stats, and I’ve had about 527 unique visitors this month, accounting for 1729 visits to 6435 pages giving me a total of 11,186 hits, and serving 112mb. That doesn’t sound like much, but when you look at some of these big trafic blogs, that get thousands of hits a day, I don’t want to think about what their bill looks like.
It’s been a VERY hectic day. That’s why I’m sorta just muttering to myself. Sol says that my blog has turned into a regular “Tech Site”. Well, I guess when I’m at the computer that’s what I’m interested in… Anyway, I’m hoping to get more real content here.
Enough rambling for one post ![]()

Try adding the words “Minipops Quiz” to a blog entry and see what it does to your stats! Its more than doubled my traffic this month….

People like me come in handy for keeping things non-tech, ehe.
Tried the mouse cleaning tip. Worked. Now have to deal with coughing, sputtering mouse. Not sure if it’s the cold/cough/flu going around, or another set of jokeful instructions too literally heeded. Alas!
Speaking of jokes, what are your favorite practical jokes?
And speaking of holidays (practical jokes = April Fool’s Day = holidays), they’re planning some kind of “good ghosts” dress-up for the 1st. Where are you when we need you most?! Life just isn’t the same without your creative presence (http://fotolog.net/angelinarieli).
