More Outlook Express Problems

So ever since I installed Internet Explorer 6sp1, Outlook Express has ceased to work. On 2 machines. Either that or it’s the removable hard drive that I store my mail files on. It’s very weird, it sends fine, but then doesn’t delete the message out of the Outbox, and then next time it sends it sends the same messages again.

Before I figured this out I must have sent over 20 messages to a poor unsuspecting victim… Sorry!

TheOpenCD — Alive and Well

TheOpenCD

I remember these guys when they first started. Mike and I participated in their forums and mailing list for a while… I thought it had petered out when there was no movement on the mailing list (other then the occasional “my software is better then your software” sqabble).

But it looks like they are actually producing a interesting CD. I’m in the process of downloading it. I use just about all of the programs already. ‘Cept Open Office, ’tis a bit of a beast.

I actaully used StarOffice 5 years and years ago… that was fun!!!

Anyway, if I get around to burning the ISO and cranking it up I’ll let you know how it feels.

Outlook Express 6sp1 Blocks Attachments

Ohhhhh, now with IE 6 SP1 by default OE blocks any attachment that could carry a virus, like .pgp and .txt files. 2 minutes of clickety clicking fixed it. It’s under options/security.

Maybe that’s what they meant when they said that they were focusing on security. Lets just make our software more difficult to use!

Woohoo!

Wolves of the Calla (The Dark Tower, Book 5)

Amazon.com: Books: Wolves of the Calla (The Dark Tower, Book 5)

Oooh, just noticed a poster for this on the wall of one of the tube stations in London. Having read the 4 others I’ve got to find out what happens next.

I’m not a big King fan, don’t like the horror much, enjoyed “Eye of the dragon”, and read “The Green Mile” segment by segment as they came out so long ago, and then “Riding the Bullet” because it was free and on the internet.

I’m not much of a book reader all together. This series is supposed to bring together many of his other books, and since I haven’t read them I probably won’t catch some of it, but I hope it’s at least entertaining.

Tolerance Vs. Responsibility

This is in response to Ange’s comment on the previous post.

Yeh, I’m pretty tolerant, but there has to be a point where tolerance ends, and you decide that something is just plain wrong.

During the discussion the bits that I was most interested in (or disturbed by) were the bits where others on the panel were talking about their kids and how they had to be as open minded as they could in their upbringing. I agree with that up to a certain point.

My Talk at the INFORM Conference

OK, so I’m finally getting around to writing about this. It’s been a busy few weeks, as I’m sure you’ve noticed. The quality of the posts here has shot way down. Anyhow, I’ll to the story…

Dang, I JUST deleted one of these 5 minutes ago

Welcome to the 419 Eater

The game is to string the Nigerian scammer along for as long as you can. Some people even had them send pictures. Pretty funny stuff… must remember next time I get one of these.

MultiDrives.com — Cheap Flash Drives & MP3 player

MultiDrives

OK, I’m just whoring for google rank with this one… A friend of mine just got a pile of these itsybitzy flash drives, so he set up the site to sell them.

They are very clever, small and cheap (OK, so they are not that cheap). That’s good, because when you loose it you can just pop over there and buy a new one!!!

If you’re a regular WTS reader email me and I’m sure we can work out a discount :)

Cramming

OK, so I’m getting on a train at 8 am tomorrow morning to “talk” to the Inform winter Conference at the London School of Economics, I have barely a page of chicken scratch notes, and I’m sitting here updating my Blog.

We’ll see how that turns out… going to hash over them one more time, and Stella tells me to get my clothes together because she isn’t going to iron anything at 7am… Gotta run!

Have a fun day ;)

Ivan and Oliver now out of IC

I just that heard two friends, Ivan (Dan’s Brother) and Oliver (from Ireland) and 2 others were involved in a serious car accident in the States. Didn’t get any details, but after a few phone calls, it turned out that it had happened a few days ago and the worst part is now over.

If anyone else who knows them has any more details, LMK. In the meantime, keep them and the two others who were involved in your prayers.

Photoshop vs. GIMP

Need to do a color Christmas card… can’t use The GIMP because of it’s lack of CMYK processing.

Oh well, I have an old version of that other graphics editing program laying around somewhere.
