Lets Have Capitalist Children

WorldNetDaily: Child abuse in government schools

From the article:

These institutions are no longer schools. They are government indoctrination centers, owned and operated by government and staffed by government employees who have every reason to teach dependency on government and no reason to produce a generation of children who have learned how to depend on themselves.

The single most prevalent form of child abuse in this country is the act of sending a child to a government school. We worry incessantly about the separation of church and state. We would do well to devote half as much attention to the separation of government and education.

Dave Barry on 2003

washingtonpost.com: Between Iraq and a Hard Place

Dave Barry on the highlights of 2003 and why we should be happy it’s almost 2004. MUST READ!

Favorite Line: “Palestinian and Israeli leaders finally recover the Road Map to Peace, only to discover that, while they were looking for it, the Lug Nuts of Mutual Interest came off the Front Left Wheel of Accommodation, causing the Sport Utility Vehicle of Progress to crash into the Ditch of Despair.”

This is worse then the RED!

Arg, I’ve been playing with CSS for a while, and now I wish that I could go back to the happy RED look.

Oh, well… I wanted more space for links and the like. I guess the main pain is getting IE and Mozilla to look the same. So far so good.

I just started reading this guy and he has quite a nice look. It’s spacious yet compact.

New Look for WTS

With Christmas over I’m going to work on a new (tighter) look for WTS. I’m also going to update the software and add a few modules.

Things may be pretty wonky until everything is worked out.

[Update]: So, following the instructions here, I’ve broken all my links, but made the archives into a much more logical and googleable format.

[Update]: Still a LOT of tweaking to do, but will leave it for some other year ;) It will end up in 3 columns.

Stratego

Ed’s Stratego Site

Played a couple rounds of this fantastic game. High on stategy points. The first game was useless, the second was very close, I lost but it could have gone either way at the end, I was short on important peices, and my esteemed opponant only had a few peices, but he used them well.

He got my Marshal through a shrewed trick which I should have been smarter then to fall for. Anyhow, I’d like to play some more.

Good game!

Top Ten Web Mistakes

Top Ten Web Design Mistakes of 2003 (Jakob Nielsen’s Alertbox)

Interesting read, I am currently only guilty of 1 or 2 but am planning on rearranging my archives which will be good in the long run, but will effect anyone who links to my archive pages now (I am quite sure nobody does.)

Terror Alert

CNN.com – Source: U.S. wants to question Air France no-shows – Dec. 26, 2003

13 people miss Air France flights, most of these people were already on Terror watch lists, or were put on them “After investigation”.

This is getting to be a bit much. I wonder how much “investigation” it would take to put me or you on one of these “terror watch lists”.

So the terror threat remains HIGH! What they are saying is (in my words) “We are under attack, don’t modify your behavior, just get used to soldiers on the street with machine guns.”

Two Bites

Annie was preparing to leave the table without finishing the food on her plate. Usually I don’t force her to finish everything, but so that I maintain the illusion that I have control of the situation, I make her eat a few more bites before she leaves.

The conversation went like this:
“Daddy, I’m done”
“OK, but first…”
“Annie eats 2 bites”
“OK, Annie, take two more bites and then you can be excused.”
“No Daddy, I already did. I already took two more bites.”

Although it was cute, I think by the time she said it she realized that it wouldn’t work. So she took her two more bites and was off.

TV Sucks — More on the hopeless World Idol

WIL WHEATON dot NET

Yeh, I feel exactly the same way. I seldom watch TV, simply because of the crap that is usually on. Granted, TV in the UK is generally better then the States (from my experience).

Stella’s mom is over and she mentioned that they watched World Idol last night as well. However she watched the German version which was hosted by Shona Fraser who was the judge from Germany in the UK version. The contestants were obviously the same, but some of the judges were different. This brought up some interesting problems.

The show was prerecorded, but also the comments from the judges were different depending on which country it was being shown in, so most of the show was put together in post production.

Anyway, I’m not going to spend any more time on this crud. The show is a joke. Like most stuff on mainstream TV these days.
