World Idol

I don’t know why I’m have this on, but I’m doing a bit of work on a project and it’s playing in the background.

Who would put themself infront of that audience would have to be insane. The judges are a joke. They whole show is a joke if you ask me.

Right now Diana, the winner of the PanArabian contest is singing, my vote is for her. I can’t imagine the judges saying anything against her fantastic performance, of what will prolly be the only non-english song.

[update] I mean, this is just terrible… I’m pretty sure the only thing that is keeping the claimed 100,000,000 strong TV audience watching is the same morbid curiosity to see which of these clowns gets voted in.

I got everything setup to get some work done but then realized that my host doesn’t have cvs installed, OK, moving right along.

[another update] So I turnd the friggin thing off a third of the way into it, because it was just one mediocre kareoke after another followed by commentary by the (in most cases) ego crazed “judges”. Of course, I still had that morbid curiosity to see the idols, so I would just sporadically flip it on to see if whoever was on was any good.

The dude (voice of an angel, looks of a hobbit) from Norway has my vote. Great performance, chose a good, but difficult song (U2s “Beautiful Day”) and performed it well! He, along with the Jordanian girl stood out from the crowd.

The man who sued God

Man Who Sued God, The (2001)

Good movie! Very cleverly done, with an original story and whitty script.

The basic premise is a guy gets his boat hit by lightening and can’t get insurance because it was an “Act of God”. He proceeds to sue God and gets the insurance industry as well as the churches in a bit of a muddle.

Good ending! Great stuff from Connolly.

Doctor Who — Shada the “Untransmitted Story”

I got ahold of the original 6 Shada shows today. So while I’m running a lowlevel format on my machine I’ve got it running. Quite interesting, and cleverly done. The series wasn’t completed, but Tom Baker narrates the missing sections so well that you don’t even notice it (to tell you the truth, I find the narrated bits more interesting then the live action).

It’s also nice seeing Douglas Adams work, it was written in 1979, but has that touch that all his work has. The video also comes with the original script, so it’s another interesting thing to look at.

Computer Fixed — A Christmas Miracle

Stella went out with friends (to watch LOTR:ROTK), so I decided to tear apart my computer to see why the damn thing doesn’t run when standing up.

There wasn’t much to go on, but I assumed that there was something stuck under the motherboard, so everything came off and there it was, a screw sitting in one of the dips in the case. When the computer was laying on its back the screw would be in the bottom of the dip, but when it was standing up it would roll down and short circuit the motherboard.

So I got rid of that, and it seems to be working just fine. Now I’m focusing on my 120 gig HDD, I’m running a burn in test, which should take over an hour, and if that doesn’t do anything I’ll do a low-level format before sending it back to the manufacturers.

Daddy, it has sour on it

Was giving Annie lunch, and she wanted a piece of the grapefruit I was eating. So I obliged her. She took one bite and screwed up her face and said “Daddy, it has sour on it.”.

Happy Hanukkah!

I was cooking more cookies and I turned on cbeebies for Mia. Annie was upstairs and stuck her head out of the room and said “Daddy what’s on the TeeFee”, I told her that Tweenies was on, and she said “OK, I think Annie needs to watch Tweenies.”

They were doing a Hanukkah special, so I figured that I’d go upstairs and get in the mood with Adam Sandlers Hanukkah Song.

Have a good Evening!

PS. As any readers have noticed, if there are others who read either regularly or from time to time please feel free to post, or drop me an email.

Annie visits Santa!

After about a week of psyching Annie up, I finally took her down to Whitley’s shopping mall (which I can’t believe does not have a web site) to see Santa in his grotto. It’s a friend of ours doing Santa, and he “warned” us that little kids often get scared of the grotto (which is a bit dark), but Annie did considerably well. She was quite shy at first but then warmed up for the pictures (although she refused to smile).

We then supported globalization (ate in McDonalds), did some Christmas shopping, went to High Street Kensington, did some more shopping, went to another McDonalds, and then took the long trip home.

She enjoyed herself, came home and told Mommy that she saw the “Christmas Man”. I don’t know where she got that from, but it was cute.

Over the last few months Annie and I have been working on a nativity scene, Mom got the figurines and it was up to us to make the stable and do the decorating. We did a mahvelous job. Will post pictures when we’re done :)

Lord of the Gloating Rings

So a friend of mine calls me last night to let me know that he’s in the cinema waiting for LOTR:ROTK to start. He abruptly ended the phonecall with “OK, it’s starting now, gotta go”.

To get back at him for his gloating I thought I’d call him half way through to find out how it is getting on. But he’s a good law abiding person and probably turned his phone off. There were probably a lot of innocent people in the cinema who I would be bothering… no, actually I don’t feel sorry for anyone who got to see ROTK on day 1.

Yummy Peanut Cookies!

RecipeSource: Shape a Peanut Cookie

So I had the afternoon with Annie and I decided to make some cookies, did a quick search on recipesource.com and found this one!

It’s fantastic, I’ve already eaten most of them, so I’m going to make another batch today :) I didn’t bother making them “peanut shaped” just had Annie roll them into little balls and plopped them into the tray.

Enjoy

Ooooh, Winamp 5 soooo nice!

Slashdot | Winamp 2 Winamp 3 = Winamp 5!

Arg, presents somewhat of a dillema. Up until now, my favored mp3 player has been zinf. Simply because it was the best friggin mp3 player out there. It is also Free Software, which is a BIG plus.

I would stay with Zinf except that one feature in in Winamp that isn’t in Zinf and that is sorting music by the folder that it’s in. I have all my albums quite well organized in folders, but the mp3s don’t nessisarily have the correct ID3 info, so in the zinf Media manager it sort of mixes them all up.

So Winamp 5 is now on my computer, and I’ll be trying it out. If I like it better then Zinf I will switch completely.

The Zinf project is also a bit dead.
