Ethical ISP

surefish.co.uk - the christian ethical ISP for adsl broadband, flat rate and pay as you go internet access

This is not an advertisement, I’m in no way affiliated with the above company, just found it interesting.

I saw someone with a @fish.co.uk email address which brought me to this “Christian Ethical ISP” ISP. At first I found it rather amusing, and potentially a bit “over the top” as far as that kind of thing goes.

After a few clicks however I found some rather interesting things, such as their Ethical Policy. Second part is the best:

Wherever possible partners will be chosen that deliver both a quality service and make a positive ethical impact on the world. Not everything on offer is 100% ethical, but where there are issues we let you know what they are and show how you can find out more or take action.

For instance for some ‘essential’ services, such as air travel, there is no positively ethical partner available. Such services will still be provided in order to raise revenue for Christian Aid. The best available partner will be chosen and their status will be made clear.

Big set of Custom Keywords for Mozilla/Firebird

Aaron’s Custom Keywords

If you are using Mozilla or Firebird, do this NOW! Save the above link as “Web Page ONLY” and then import it into your bookmarks. It will create a new folder with a pile of great bookmarks with “custom keywords”. Learn all about these awesome Mozilla/Firebird goodies here

I haven’t done any testing on Mozilla, so a tester or 2 would be nice. There are a few glitches, but I just whipped this script that parses my Custom Keywords wiki page, into a Mozilla compatible (AFAIK) bookmarks page.

How ’bout that. Spread the news!

The code follows. I just whipped it together, so if you have any changes you would like made, please let me know!

But what are we going to do with him?

The Agonist–Breaking, Balanced News From Around The Globe

Now is when the fun starts… are we going to see a docile Saddam who will come out on TV telling the Iraqis to stop fighting the US, or is he going to be defiant or just plain silent.

What on earth can they do with him? I see the options being incredibly small. I mean sure he’s a tyrant but we had Idi Amin’s and Pinochets and a host of other evildoers living without any intervention.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they just ship him off to live in southern Russia and hope everyone forgets about him.

“Oh Daddy, you’re a Queen”

So I’m walking down the hallway and I see a crown that was leftover from a kids party. I balance it on my head and go to see Annie to see what her reaction is.

She looks at me, smiles and says “Oh Daddy, you’re a Queen!”. Not exactly the response that I was looking for. Kids are unpredictable and imaginative, although we think we understand that, they always manage to come up with something.

My new Zaurus 5500

eBay item 3064710660 (Ends 13-Dec-03 00:17:21 GMT ) - Zaurus 5500 340MB Microdrive 3day auction!

After thinking about it for a long while I finally got around to getting myself a PDA. Stalked Ebay for a few weeks until I found this one, for a GREAT price.

Someone was selling one here in the UK (the only one in ebay.co.uk) and said that if they got a decent price they would end the auction early. I had been tracking Zaurus’s in the States which went for around the $210-$250 mark so I offered him that much and got a “Good Luck”, anyway, I got the above one for $200. A measly 114 GBP! With a 340mb Microdrive. Now I just need to figure out how to get it here!

Custom Keywords - Part 2

Leaky Tap - Internet.CustomKeywords

So I was looking at my list of Custom Keywords and wondering how I can work it so that it would be easy to import into your current bookmark tree.

My idea was to write a script that every hour generated a bookmark file that you could just merge into your own bookmarks and you’ve done it.

That means coming up for Unique and short keywords for each of the links.

Lots of fun to be had! I thought since I was going to write a script to do that, I might as well, create a Mozilla sidebar as well, so that you can have easy reference to what keyword goes with what URL.

These are the types of scripting I like, a simple script that shouldn’t take longer then an hour but scratches a specific itch.

Putting Mia to sleep in her own bed — Mia 1, Daddy 0

So I was talking to my brother-in-law (who has 3 kids) about my shoulder and the problem I have bouncing Mia to sleep. He said that with at a certain point with each of his kids he would just put them in their bed and pat them until they went to sleep. He said that initially they’d holler and yell, but after a few nights they would just go to sleep.

I figured that now was as good a time as any to get started with Mia.

She was pretty tired so I gave her some water and put her down in her bed, and lay next to her humming some silly song. I was quite pleased with myself as she seemed peaceful enough. This will be easy, I thought. After a few minutes I figured that it wouldn’t hurt to close my eyes for a few minutes, maybe this would make it easier for Mia to close her eyes as well.

Within a few seconds of my closing my eyes, Mia takes her finger and shoves it further up my nose then anything has ever been in my life. Embedding her fingernail deep into the inside of my very fragile nose. I used to have nosebleeds fairly frequently as a kid (the last one I remember was when I was 14 in a water slide park in Portugal where I came down the slide at somewher around Mach 3 and hit the water at a very weird angle, Oh wait, there was the one when I was 19 and fell a meter and a half landing solidly on my back… but we won’t get into that), anyway it never really hurt my nose, but this is fairly painful.

I managed to save my white shirt and rushed to the bathroom to take care of things, coming back to find Mia very pleased with herself for having created some after-dinner-drama, no doubt for her amusement.

Anyway, after that she went to sleep fairly quickly. Porbably sensing that at this point resistance truly was futile.

Another Article on Custom Keywords

Joey Day : Firebird’s Smart Address Bar

More on Custom Keywords. A good read, very simple. I’m adding as much as I can to my Custom Keywords page, including other pages that talk about Custom Keywords.

If you find anyone make sure you add them as well!

Annie Hot “Like Fire”

Yesterday I wasn’t feeling very well, and Annie wanted to do “Rough and Tumble” but I denied saying “Daddy’s not feeling so hot”. To which she said “Annie hot, Annie hot like fire”. So cute.

Anyway during the night she got a fever. Poor thing, she’d wake up during the night saying. “Annie so hot like fire”! She was also all blocked up. Anyway, she’s doing better now. When I last checked how she was doing she said “Annie feeling a little thsick”, she’s very pale, and has a bit of a temperature but cheerful anyway.

Ooooh, got a tummy bug!

Yes, not feeling too good today… Stella thinks maybe it’s the color scheme of my blog, and she’s “quarantined” my blog from her readership until I do something about it…

Annie and Mia have sniffles and coughs as well, don’t know where that came from. But the weather has changed, and we’re waking up to good old fashioned frost. So I’m sure that has something to do with it.

Acapella band “The Magnets” debut CD: “Giving it all that”

So I got ahold of “The Magnets” debut CD “Giving it all that”. First time I’ve ever heard of them, but awesome stuff. Their website was a VERY different story, a disaster! If you want to be invisible to search engines, create a framed page using Flash to display your content.

Anyway, I googled for every keyword I could think of and the best I could get was references to gigs that they did. Just before I decided that they didn’t have a website I found someone with a link to “www.themagnets.com”. They obvously put a lot of work into the site, but what use is it when you can’t find it through the biggest search engine.

So for google and anyone who may google to this page looking for “The Magnets”, the link is:

The Magnets, a funky and fresh acapella boy band

After a bit more snooping I found this Yahoo group dedicated to them as well. German fan site is here.

Anyway, the music is GREAT, and I’m glad I bumped into these guys. Looking forward to hearing more of them.

My favorite song? A little bit of Something!

Mozilla/Firebird Named Bookmarks Directory

Leaky Tap - Internet.NamedBookmarks

OK, I’ve started the Leaky Tap Firebird/Mozilla Named Bookmark directory.

I know of nowhere else on the internet with all of these in one place. Feel free to add/edit, but make sure that you add credits at the bottom.

If anyone has questions on how to use these wonderful jewels then don’t hesitate to email me.

Of course you have to run Mozilla or Firebird for it to work :)
I also appreciate direct links from your site to these pages. Get the word out :) the more people looking the more people adding to it.
