Somebody Invite me to join Orcut.com

orkut

This looks interesting, an “invite only” friends network… In general these types of things don’t really work. Maybe an invite only system would suck less.

MySQLinks DB Patch

I’ve hacked MySQLinks so that it doesn’t need it’s own database. Download the patch here.

Installation is simple:

  1. Download the program from here.
  2. Unzip it: tar -xvzf mysqlinks.tar.gz
  3. Download the patch from here
  4. Move into the folder: cd mysqlinks
  5. Apply the patch patch -p1 < ../mysqlinks_db.patch
  6. Follow instructions here.

Hutton Reports “No Third Party Involved in Kelly Suicide”

Britain: Hutton inquiry whitewashes Blair government over Iraq war

However, much Lord Hutton paid, it was money WELL spent… not that anyone really believes that the BBC is evil and the Government/MoD are blameless.

One thing I had a hard time with was his “There was no third party involved with Dr. Kelly’s suicide” statement. What we wanted to know was if there was a second party involved???

Blizzard

I’m sure everyone here in the UK woke up with a great big BRRRRR… big news, maybe, but not quite big enough to get on the front page of WTS. However, right now it’s really falling!!!

And right before rush hour, there will be queues on the M25 tonight!!! Let’s just hope that the gritters can get out in time this year (Don’t tell me you didn’t get enough time to prepare). Last year we had friends stuck in London traffic over night with only2 inches of snow…

Please add yours now, so that we can all send you all of those cruddy, noisey happy birthday ecards!!!

If you don’t have a website, enter your email address like “mailto:myemail@example.com”, that should work. Looking forward to seeing your birthdays up!!!

Popcorn Mail client

Ultrafunk: Products / Popcorn

A nice lightweight POP3 mail client. The nice thing abouit this is that you can read your mail online without downloading it. So if you get a whole lot of spam, or if you’ve been away for a week or so, and want to delete the spam without downloading it, you can just fire this up and delete away.

Probably not feature-filled enough to be a regular email client, but seems to fill a niche.

American Tourist’s Declaration of Understanding

Banterist: Tourist’s Declaration of Understanding

More people should read this!

I understand that speaking English but adding your country’s accent is not the same as speaking your country’s language. Therefore, I agree not to say things like “Cane you put zee luggage in zee room?” and expect to be understood.

I understand that speaking louder does not necessarily make me more understandable.

You agree not to make me the whipping boy for my government’s policies, should you happen to disagree with them. I can provide you with an address for written protest, if desired.

You understand that my country has 280 some-odd million people in it, and that your bad experience with two American college kids in 1987 does not constitute a deep knowledge of the populace, nor a good reason to hate me before I’ve said “hello” in your tongue.

You will not ask me if I know Michael Jackson personally. I do not, and if I did I would not admit it.

Good stuff, read the article for the whole thing.

Easy Apache PHP setup instructions

Walters dHTML Script Library

Personally, I have NO problem setting up PHP/Apache on win2k, other people can’t seem to make heads or tails out of it. Anyway, this is a nice step by step guide about what one guy did.

He doesn’t instally mysql, but that should be pretty straightforward ;).

Cooperative Linux - Linux under Windows???

Hack the Planet:

So according to the colinux homepage “Cooperative Linux (short-named coLinux) is a port of the Linux kernel that allows it to run cooperatively alongside another operating system on a single machine.”

But then they have screenies that show nothing but KDE+Apps booting up under Cygwin, which is nothing spectacular at all. There is no mention of cygwin on their homepage, what is the connection???

Would DL it if I didn’t have anything better to do…

OK, Newness is HERE!

Figured I better just put it up here… don’t have time for fiddling any more! So here it is. There are still some blatant screwynesses (like the tabs) which will get fixed.

Speaking of the tabs, they were graciously stolen from the site of the US future president (if I have anything to do with it). I’m sure he won’t mind.

All New WTS!!!

What’s the Story — by Aaron Wormus

OK, don’t panic, this design is REALLY cool!!! And it should be coming to WTS’s front page REALLY SOON NOW!

The design to end all designs… first, I wanted to run it by you, my faithful readers. Let me know what you think. This time around I’ll rework the archive pages and individual pages.

I jumped through major loops to get the bar on the side to be able to be put on individual archive pages (and get updated every time new posts are added), you’ll have to guess how that’s done! No, I don’t regenerate the whole site every time someone posts a comment ;)
So flame away folks, all user feedback goes to /dev/null anyway, so you might as well make the most of it!!!
