Dada Mail Rocks!

Welcome To Dada Mail

I’ve been playing around with this for the last few days, and I have to say it’s some of the cleanest perl code that I have ever seen. And the attention that the author has given to documentation is equal to none.

I’m hooking WTS to it so hopefully within the next week or so I’ll be able to mail out my headlines!

In other news, the last person in western civilization to watch LOTR:ROTK will watch it tonight at 7pm showing. Woohoo!

New SOLAR WOLF is out!!!

Planet SolarWolf

This is the ONLY computer game I play, and oh what fun it is!!!

Anyway, this new version comes with all new graphics, and some new additions to the game, just to make it more challenging for us pros.

I’m still trying to win the game with my original 3 ships, without having to reload the game.

In this new version it seems that you can’t get as close to the fireballs as you could in the other one. So I’m having a bunch of close calls, once I get the feel for it I’ll be a pro again!!!

Praize — The Christian IM program

Praize Christian Chat Instant Messenger

Interesting, a Christian IM program that supports, Yahoo, AOL, MSN and more. I wonder how it’s done from a technical point of view.

Prolly just fired up a Jabber server on their host, with the connectors for the other services. Then whipped up a client.

Kilroy-Silk is an Idiot!

MediaGuardian.co.uk | Press&publishing | Kilroy-Silk faces police inquiry over Arabs article

I just started watching a program, where they are interviewing Kilroy-Silk on this stupid column. He stands by his comments and says it’s obvious to see that his remarks are only about the “suicide bombers, limb amputators, women repressors?”, not every Arab on the street whom he, obviously has nothing against.

“What do they think we feel about them? That we adore them for the way they murdered more than 3,000 civilians on September 11 and then danced in the hot, dusty streets to celebrate the murders? That we admire them for being suicide bombers, limb amputators, women repressors?”

Whether these inflamitory comments spark racial hatred, I don’t know. Everyone has the right to voice their own opinion, and by doing this, Mr. Kilroy-Silk has shown himself to be a bigot, and cannot possibly host the fair and unballanced forum which he claims his TV show is.

40% of email goes missing

Langa Letter: E-Mail–Hideously Unreliable

Frightening experiment! I’m interested to see if someone can duplicate the results of this test. Maybe with a different upstream provider.

He also blames “hyperactive spam filters”, and critisizes Blackhole lists.

He doesn’t take into account that a percetage of the mail people sent confirming that they got the original mail was lost. So really it’s 40% over 2 steps.

UK based Web Hosting Service Needed

I’m looking for some good UK based web hosting service that I can host a couple sites on, with email etc. I’m doing it for a friend, and they want to have it based here.

Anybody want to recommend something. I need Shell, Mysql, FTP, etc, all the usuals. It’s a low traffic site so something with reasonable pricing scheme would be best.

Doctor Who “Shada” Video sells for $50!

eBay item 3375274104 (Ends 09-Jan-04 17:36:16 GMT ) - Doctor Who SHADA & Script Book Dr. Who

Amazing thing this eBay! I’ve bought and sold stuff before, but this is the most amazing. I bought this video tape for $3 and sell it for $52. Thats a HUGE profit (for those of you who are bad at math ;)
I’ll be keeping my eyes open for more of these… I was just browsing through a charity shop when I saw it there, I realized that it could probably get sold for a profit, but had no idea that it was in such demand!

Oh, well, I think I’ll watch it once more before sending it off!

CSS3 Comparison. MSN for OSX Leads!

MacEdition Guide to CSS3 Selector Support

IE for OSX has always been far better then IE for Windows. I even heard that they had a totally different team working on that.

Should be VERY simple to port that over to Linux.

I got my Zaurus

Yippie! My Sharp Zaurus 5500 arrived today!

I unwrapped it, and pushed the button and NOTHING. The battery must have been dead. So I plugged it in but still nothing, no lights or anything. So I figured the cable was bad (we have different plugs here) so I searched for a cable with the right end on it, and plugged it in.

The light lit up and I pushed the button. And it whirred up sweetly, only to come to a screeching halt after the file system check failed. It was certainly running linux, and I was very familiar with this story, I just got my new PDA and I was staring at a root prompt. Anyway I did a “shutdown -h now” and it turned off. I flipped it back on again, only to do the same thing.

To make a long story short I tried a few things and figured I just needed to do a hard reset, so I went online and found out how (google beats manuals). After I reset it, it came up beautifully, and is VERY responsive.

I’ve been in and out of the #zaurus and #openzaurus rooms all evening and am quite sure that I will flash the ROM to use OpenZaurus. It simply rawks! :)

Negative People

A woman was at her hairdresser’s getting her hair styled for a trip to Rome with her boyfriend. She mentioned the trip to the hairdresser, who responded, Rome? Why would anyone want to go there? It’s crowded and dirty and full of Italians. You’re crazy to go to Rome. So, how are you getting there?”

“We’re taking Continental,” was the reply. “We got a great rate!”

“Continental?” exclaimed the hairdresser. “That’s a terrible airline. Their planes are old, their flight attendants are ugly, and they’re always late. So, where are you staying in Rome?”

“We’ll be at this exclusive little place over on Rome’s Tiber River called Teste.”

“Don’t go any further. I know that place. Everybody thinks its gonna be something special and exclusive, but it’s really a dump, the worst hotel in the city! The rooms are small, the service is surly and they’re overpriced. So,
whatcha doing when you get there?”

“We’re going to go to see the Vatican and we hope to see the Pope.”

“That’s rich,” laughed the hairdresser. “You and a million other people trying to see him. He’ll look the size of an ant. Boy, good luck on this lousy trip of yours. You’re going to need it.”

A month later, the woman again came in for a hairdo. The hairdresser asked her about her trip to Rome.

“It was wonderful,” explained the woman, “not only were we on time in one of Continental’s brand new planes, but it was overbooked and they bumped us up to first class. The food and wine were wonderful, and I had a handsome 28-year-old steward who waited on me hand and foot. And the hotel was great! They’d just finished a $5 million remodeling job and now it’s a jewel, the finest hotel in the city. They, too, were overbooked, so they apologized and gave us their owner’s suite at no extra charge!”

“Well,” muttered the hairdresser, “That’s all well and good, but I know you didn’t get to see the Pope.”

“Actually, we were quite lucky, because as we toured the Vatican, a Swiss Guard tapped me on the shoulder and explained that the Pope likes to meet some of the visitors and if I’d be so kind as to step into his private room and wait, the Pope would personally greet me. Sure enough, five minutes later, the Pope walked through the door and shook my hand! I knelt down and he spoke a few words to me.”

“Oh, really! What’d he say?”

He said, “Where’d you get the shitty hairdo?”

To calculate VAT element and value before VAT

Just putting this here for my future reference.

Multiply the value by 17.5 and divide the result by 117.5. For example:

200 * 17.5 / 117.5 = 29.78 - 200 = 170.22
