Happy Feb 29th

Just thought I should blog today… have been thinking that I was going to do this for a while, but never got around to it. So many things to talk about, The Passion made a big hit… seems like everyone and their brother went to see it… Obviously the huge controversy that surrounded it helped get the word out. There is no such thing as bad publicity.

Which reminds me. I got one of those Nigerian spam letters today from “Barrister Climent Alexandria”. Full text follows

New Links Manager

I’m about 60 percent done on the guts of my all new link management script. When I get a working version then I’ll start using it here, and put up a release prolly .01.

I need a name though. For the life of me I can’t think of anything, well, I shouldn’t say that… twinkylinky is constantly coming to mind but I want something that doesn’t sound like it should be in san fransisco getting married right now.

Sol suggested Linkmaster, but that sounds like it should be dressed in leather… the working name is tlinks but that doesn’t have much of a ring to it… bah!

Suggestions are welcome, the script will be released under the GNU GPL, so if you’re interested in working on it just let me know.

Actually, I may release the core class under the LGPL, as I do want it to get as much coverage as possible. Let me know what you think!

John Edwards for President?

The Agonist: The Agonist’s Choice: John Edwards for President

I like the agonist, but I’m not so sure about their choice for president.

In their list of great things about Edwards (sincere, genuine), they seem to miss the fact that Edwards was a lawyer and that’s what lawyers do.

The thing I like about Edwards is that he is new blood, probably not yet corrupted by the power.

Nader is Back :S

KansasCity.com - The Kansas City Star, breaking local news, sports, entertainment, business

OK, here is a bit of a groan… while I was gunning for Nader last election, he is not anywhere near what the states needs to pull itself out of the mess its in.

Lets just hope he doesn’t spoil the democrats chance.

WHO Says the Bible Is Literally True?

News

A poll taken amongst 1011 Americans :

  • 61 percent believe the story of the creation of the Earth in seven days as told in the book of Genesis is literally true.
  • 60 percent believe in the story of Noah’s ark, the global flood, and God’s covenant to never destroy the Earth again.
  • 64 percent believe that Moses really did part the Red Sea so the Jews could escape their Egyptian captors.

Some other interesting stuff there.

My budding Homeschool Community

About 2 weeks ago I got onto orkut, to check out the phpcommunity community. It was pretty dead, but when poking around I saw that there was no Homeschooling community, so I promptly created one.

Now there are 23 members and a fair bit of chit chat! Great fun! If you’re interested in joining, send me an email and introduce yourself (URLs perferred over ASLs), and I’ll invite you :)

Reclaim W!

Warning: this is a VERY trivial blog entry…

I don’t like the way that when you do a “I’m Feeling Lucky” search on the letter “W”, it takes you to http://www.georgewbush.com/. I know this because several times during the day, I go to type my own URL in the FireFox bar and instead of selecting the autocomplete URL from the dropdown list I just hit Enter while W is the only thing on the address bar.

This does a “I’m Feeling Lucky” search on google and sends me to Dubya’s page.

We need to do something about this, I’ve contacted a few people and together we will reclaim the great letter “W”! More to come :)

What’s an ARK?

So I’m reading the story of Noah’s Ark to Annie out of her bible book, and I get to the part where Noah starts building the Ark. I ask Annie, “What’s an ark?” and she says “It’s a Puzzle”.

We have this big floor puzzle of all the animals in the ark, so I guess that’s what she thought the ark was. A big puzzle.

While on the topic, I bumped into this interesting article on Straight Dope. Nothing new or revelatory, but interesting nonetheless.

More on Firefox

Mozilla Firefox - The Browser, Reloaded

I was just thinking that it’s really silly of the firebird people to rebrand as Firefox.

I like (and I know others do too) referring to my browser as “my bird”… “my fox” doesn’t have the same ring.

Anyway, what’s done is done… I’m going to miss my bird though…
