Cool Breakout game
Playaholics – Play games and win stuff!
Its based on the breakout concept but pretty cool. Controls are harder, but the concept is great!

Read on to hear the bulls*** story the military came up with to try to create a martyr out of him.
Cpl Tillman’s status as a national hero will be hardly dented by the new details of his fate. It is an embarrassment for the US military, however, which had earlier given a fairly detailed account of the events leading up to his death. In that version, Cpl Tillman was said to have died after the second unit in a two-unit convoy came under attack and he turned back with his men to help his comrades.
“Through the firing, Tillman’s voice was heard issuing fire commands to take the fight to the enemy on the dominating high ground,” read an army citation when the soldier was awarded the Purple Heart and Silver Star posthumously for valour. “Only after his team engaged the well-armed enemy did it appear their fires diminished.”
It now appears that an Afghan soldier who was alongside Cpl Tillman as they returned to the first unit was mistaken as an enemy combatant by one of the US soldiers and fired upon. Other US soldiers began shooting in the same direction, at which point Cpl Tillman was fatally wounded. It seems, moreover, that there were no enemy soldiers in the vicinity at the time.

Just thought I’d jot down a few “Annie Antics” before starting work this morning.
Annie has been growing up so fast! She has a mind of her own and it really works! It’s amazing to see how her thought patterns develop. One of the things that she has been really on about the last few weeks is “bad dudes”. I have no idea where she got that term from but she is always on the lookout for “bad dudes”, I think if you are wearing a bicycle helmet you have 90% chance of getting thrown into the “bad dude” category.
A few weeks ago Annie and Stella were walking down the road when two guys came along on their bikes. Just when they got in hearing range she pointed her finger at them and said “look mom, bad dudes” at the top of her voice. Thankfully, they were very amused and stopped to chat.
The last few days Mia has been a bit sick, so after dinner I’ve been taking Annie out for a walk so that Stella could put Mia down early. We usually walk down to the Main (river) which is about 15 minutes away. Annie is a fantastic walker, and really enjoys going down there. They have a boat club by the river, so we watch the people go by in their skulls. I was talking to Annie about the different parts of the boat when these two younger boys came by in their skull. They were obviously beginners and were making a bit of a mess out of it, so I told Annie that “these boys aren’t very good”, to which she promptly replied “Yes, they’re bad dudes and will stop their boat and will come and take Annie away from her daddy”. I seriously don’t know where she comes up with these things.
One of her favorite cartoons has been “Winnie the Pooh on a blustery day”. There’s this part in a song about how Winnie the Pooh had to “rescue his supper”. Yesterday while walking home I said something about supper, and then asked her if she knew what supper was, to which she replied “Yes, supper is Honey”. Very smart kid!
Mia Update coming soon!
TheStar.com – War on terror lawless: Amnesty
Here it is for your reading pleasure!
Amnesty International Report 2004
Just skimmed over the first few paragraphs. Good reading, but I’ll wait for the papers to summerize it. One interesting part from the section that I read was:
Iraq and the “war on terror” have obscured the greatest human rights challenge of our times. According to some sources, developing countries spend about US$22 billion a year on weapons and, for $10 billion dollars a year, they would achieve universal primary education. These statistics hide a huge scandal: the failed promise to attack extreme poverty and address gross economic and social injustice.
Exit Strategy – How to leave Iraq in three simple steps. By George Saunders
VERY Funny! How to kill the people who want to kill us without creating more people who want to kill us is explained in very simple terms.
Must read!
Just the other day I was telling someone that Tannenbaum would never back up Dan Browns statements that Linus Torvalds didn’t write Linux. I haven’t really been following the story, but Tannenbaum has just put out another statement.
Still as arrogent/confident as always, but a good read!
Read it at http://www.cs.vu.nl/~ast/brown/
UPDATE: Tannenbaum’s second article also up here

The secret is out
It’s my new blog (and just when you thought I was back here), which will hopefully become the unified source for up-to-the-minute PHP news for those who don’t have time to read the mailing lists.
It’s running serendipity out of the CVS. And seems to be doing pretty well.
If you have a PHP blog feel free to syndicate my news, I have feeds in every format anyone would want. So enjoy!
PHP: get_magic_quotes_gpc – Manual
Having one of those GPC nightmares! Anyway found this happy snippet that un-does the GPC “magic”.
[code]
function magicQuotesRemove(&$array) {
if(!get_magic_quotes_gpc())
return;
foreach($array as $key => $elem) {
if(is_array($elem))
magicQuotesRemove($elem);
else
$array[$key] = stripslashes($elem);
}
}
magicQuotesRemove($_GET);
magicQuotesRemove($_POST);
magicQuotesRemove($_COOKIE);

Visual Basic: Visual Basic At The Movies
All you have to do is watch a few movies and answer a few questions. If you’re into VB then I guess it’s worth it.
As far as I’m concerned BCX is the closest I’m EVER getting to basic and windows programming!
