Vintage Vinyl:Steal This Book
Probably not the smartest thing to be linking to these days… but hey, it was the first thing that my new stumbleupon for firefox button took me to.
Makes a bit of sense that it was written while the author was in jail.

Multicultural missteps in Software development

Microsoft’s multicultural missteps / Company offends foreign countries with software gaffes
Interesting article regarding taking cultural differences into account when creating software. The mistakes that are highlighted are from Microsoft, but I’m sure other companies, and possibly ever OSS projects run into similar problems.
Another blunder from Microsoft involved the use of chanting of the Quran as […]

Opentracker: web counter, web tracking, web statistics & web analysis
NOTICE: This review was based on the first older version of OpenTracker.net. Since opentracker.net was overhauled I’ve had the chance to play with the greatly improved version. I’ll be writing up a review of the new version and will link to it here. Until then, get […]

Amazon.com: Your Wish List
My wish list lives… Now, I just need to put some stuff I _really_ want in there.
Not all at the same time now, I don’t want to trigger a DDOS on amazon.com’s servers

A Sharpanetto

Sunday, August 22nd, 2004

Annie came and asked if she could borrow my “Sharpanetto” today… I quickly scanned my desk wondering what she might be referring to, but couldn’t find anything.
I quickly started offering alternatives: “Scotch tape?”, “Sharpener?”, but she said “No, the sharpenetto” and reached over and grabbed my stapler. I said “You mean the stapler”, “Yes, […]

Welcome to my new WordPress Weblog

Sunday, August 22nd, 2004

Keeping it line with my previous attempts at design, this one is as ugly as they come. It might get better… if you want to speed up the process buy me a book on CSS
I’ll work on configuring this week, so hopefully we’ll have all the kinks worked out.
Overall I’m quite pleased with […]

Larry Wall’s State of the Onion #8

Saturday, August 21st, 2004

perl.com: The State of the Onion
I’ve been reading these every year for the last 6 or 7 years. This one is fantastic.
Larry can say whatever he wants, and it still comes out great! Some highlights!
“Now the particular reason this speech is going to be lousy is that I made up all my slides before I […]

iPod vs. The Cassette
No, it’s not a new action movie… it’s a silly test to compare the “features” of a regular cassette tape and an iPod.
Obviously the Cassette tape wins!

Google RSS FEED

Google.rss !
This is pretty nice! Run a search and have it return a RSS feed with the results.
It was the end of my day, so I decided that I would take a couple minutes to implement this with JellyBob’s Services_Google PEAR package.
Unfortunately, the package depends on PHP5, to which I have not yet upgraded.

Mozilla Releases Mozilla Sunbird 0.2
Thanks to this “insightful” comment on /. I will never be able look at my firefox icon the same way.
“I always thought that the Firefox icon looked like a weasel humping a blue marble. And people seem to be able to recognize it as such.

OfB.biz: Open for Business - The MySQL License Question
Total BS article… but even worse are stupid knee-jerk responses that were made on /.. The kids over there a) didn’t read the article b) didn’t read the GPL. It’s just sad.
Anyway, I say never trust a website that runs PHPNuke 5.5! Which makes me wonder […]
