The GBP 333 cocktail

The GBP 333 cocktail | This is London
Two bankers out celebrating their City bonuses have helped create one of the world’s most expensive cocktails.

The Goldman Sachs employees had just received sevenfigure sums and were determined to celebrate in style, so they asked a barman at Umbaba in Soho to create the most opulent drink possible. The result was the Magie Noir – costing GBP 333 a glass.

The pair ordered two rounds of Magie Noir, a total of 20 drinks. Because they were buying in bulk they were charged GBP 300 per glass, adding GBP 6,000 to their final bill of about GBP 15,000.

Umbaba has added Magie Noir to its cocktail menu and will launch it at a party on Saturday when each glass will come with a cocktail pin made of 24-carat white gold.

Global Nomad’s and TCK – Get your GEAR!

Fun Stuff : Global Nomad & Third Culture Kids : CafePress.com

TCK : CafePress.com

Thanks to the comment on my last post from Shoshauna, I was informed of a new shop for TCK gear. Thanks for the post and best of luck with the endeavour.

One interesting thing about TCK’s (that’s Third Culture Kids, for the uninitiated) is that I am not aware of any good internet based forum, if anyone comes to this post while looking for one, email me at (firstname@lastname.com) and let me know if you found something interesting.

IT Conversations: Java Superplatforms

IT Conversations: Richard Monson-Haefel – Java Superplatforms

Interesting talk about “Java Superplatforms”. A quick mention to Zend/IBM is made when talking about Superplatform contenders.

What’ Happening at ADAP

Greetings, and happy Sunday :)

This is a catchup blog entry, to let you know about the fact that I just changed the “official” name of this blog from “Another Day in Paradise” to “A Day in Paradise”.

The main reason for the change is because because I’m doing a bit more work on my Podcast, and will probably be creating a couple promos, joining networks and being a bit more shameless in my self promotion. I’ll keep posting all my podcasts to this feed, so if you are subscribed to the main feed you’ll get them all. I’ll also create a Activism feed as well as a Programming feed, and will create a page for the podcasts so that people can only subscribe to what they are interested in. All that to say that while washing dishes, and drinking a beer it came to me that “Another Day In Paradise” was just too long to be “commercially viable”.

Anyway, you know where to come to get the details. I’m still planning that server move and once that is done I’ll step up the work on getting all this together, coming up with a new design and generally getting everything in gear. But like always don’t hold your breath.

If anyone knows of any cool “Podcast Networks” that my “show” would fit into, please let me know. Also take a second or two to vote for me at Podcast Alley, or Podcast Pickle. If you are a YME user, subscribe to my show here. And if you use iTunes, you can get my feed from feedburner.

Digimode.co.uk – Spamming != Increasing Customer Base

Now I’m not writing this because I’m bored, and I’m not writing this in anger because of the 2792 blog spams that accumulated over night, or the 197 blog spams which I have been hit with since I last hit the delete button (about an hour ago). I’m writing this because spammers are evil and deserve a slow and painful death, and the least I can do is steal the top spot on google.

So our winners for today’s spammer of the day award is is Digimode.co.uk.

From strategy to execution, we have the capabilities to provide our customers with seamless, one-stop solutions. Be it getting closer to your customers or getting products to market, we address the entire spectrum of technology needs.

No word in the email or their website about their spamming services… I guess you have to find that out yourselves. Maybe next time they’ll see that spamming (me at least) causes more trouble than it’s worth.

Stan “Tookie” Williams to be Executed

SaveTookie.org Home

The U.S. Supreme Court, on October 11, 2005, ruled against Tookie on his final appeal and set his execution date for December 13. Thus they disregarded 9 of the 24 Ninth Circuit Court judges’ assertion that the District Attorney at Tookie’s trial employed “reprehensible and unconstitutional” racist tactics, using animal-in-a-jungle metaphors to refer to Tookie and to the South Central environment in which he lived. This landmark ruling means that minorities can now legally be rejected from juries based on race. This is now the law of the land.
