I think their point wasn't so much that a straight actor is playing someone who's gay. Of course, that's just being an actor.

I think their point was more, the people involved went to such great lengths to assure everyone that these actors were most certainly not gay, after having just played gay characters.

I think the tragic part they may be referring can be demonstrated by the absurdity of -- when a gay actor plays a straight man, there is no big hullabaloo to assure everyone that this actor most certainly is not straight, but is, in fact, gay.</description>
