Voices United For America. The Star Spangled Banner
We created this multi-lingual version of the Star-Spangled Banner to raise awareness of Senate Resolution 458 and House Resolution 793, which state that English is the only language in which our National Anthem should be sung or recited. This resolution was unanimously passed by the Senate and is currently before the House Judiciary Committee.
We find the proposed resolutions inconsistent with a fundamental American right, free speech. It can also be seen as depreciating the rich and diverse cultural heritage of immigrants, the ancestors of many Americans, who founded, developed, and defended this nation. The resolutions fail to recognize that one of the country’s greatest strengths is the diversity of the populace.

That the resolution was passed at all is stupid. The national anthem has been sung in multiple languages for many years with absolutely no problems… If we have to have the immigration exam in multiple languages - why not the anthem.

Congress should make better use of their time that trying to control expressions of patriotism.
This rendition is really cool. My only problem w/ the whole affair is that the latest official version Mexican immigrants version isn’t the anthem-some 23 yr old girl wrote a completely different song! And besides I think that at official occasions and sports games and at schools the anthem should be sung in English-the official language- and that it won’t be sung in a different language much less replaced w/ a different song entirely. Lastly if we were in France would we sing their anthem in Arabic? Russian? Italian? There are people from everywhere in every country- taking the time to sing every song and make everyone feel “acknowledged” would take forever and kills the meaning of a national anthem in the first place-something to unite the people living in one country-whether or not they are from there or speak its language.
