On Flatscreens
a chat I had with some of the lurkers on #phpc
* awormus has been meaning to get a bigger monitor
<Tetraboy> What you got now?
* alphablue has a 19 inch viewsonic for sale
<awormus> whatever it is it’s too small for all my icons
<Tetraboy> On my want list is a ~19″ or so LCD for 2nd monitor.
<alphablue> on my to sell list is a 19″ lcd monitor….
<Tetraboy> If only I could move it from my want list, to my buy list. ![]()
<alphablue> maybe if you worked more instead of chatting on irc ![]()
<Tetraboy> Good point.
<awormus> I don’t think I could get used to anything bigger than a 19″ screen…
<awormus> I wouldn’t mind 3 though
<awormus> I have the LG Flatron Slim, fantastic screen
<Tetraboy> Ah, 23″ is easy to get used to. Dunno if I’d go any bigger.
<awormus> worth every bit of the $400
<awormus> Tetraboy: is that wide?
<awormus> I was surprised that just about everyone had wide screens in the US… I think they are aweful to work on
* awormus would prefer tall
<Tetraboy> Yep.
<Tetraboy> Why is that?
<awormus> because everything flows from top to bottom on the comptuer
<jhherren> because most people aren’t coders
<Tetraboy> I like the wide screen, you can have browser and editor open side by side.
<awormus> At a conf once we had this screen that would swivel
* awormus like expanding windows
<– tnoonaz has quit (Remote closed the connection)
<Tetraboy> Mine is a 16:10 monitor, which is taller than standard widescreen though.
<alphablue> large widescreens make sense though
<alphablue> i work on 1920×1200
<Tetraboy> alphablue: me too.
<alphablue> the low end widescreens are wierd though , and they sell em with the “you can watch widescreen movies like a flat panel tv”
<Pollita> awormus: I have a widescreen, but it rotates to act as a tallscreen
<awormus> yeah, I need one like that
<awormus> Pollita: what is yours?
<awormus> can you recommend one?
–> jbauer (n=jbauer) has joined #phpc
<awormus> jbauer: how are your monitors holding out?
<jbauer> awormus, they are good
<awormus> (talking about wide screen monitors)
<jbauer> the stands kick ass
<andrei-> awormus, get a refurb 20″ Dell widescreen
<jbauer> awormus, the only thing is, i miss the height of a traditional screen
<jbauer> the wide screen is nice, but 19″ is a bit short
<jbauer> good for music apps, not so great for coding
<awormus> jbauer: yeah, that’s just what I was saying
<bdeshong> mmm, 24″ Dell widescreen
<jbauer> i can turn one on it’s side though
<bdeshong> 1920×1200…yum
<jbauer> awormus, just gave zircu the BETA office tour
<andrei-> or a non-refurb

<Ai> [ The Dell Online Store: Build Your System ]
<Tetraboy> My monitor is about 19.5″ wide, and 12″ tall.
<Tetraboy> Philips 230WP7NS
<Tetraboy> Moved from a CRT 21″, and I think I prefer the LCD.
<awormus> andrei-: do you know if that swivels to be tall?
<andrei-> awormus, not that one
<andrei-> but 2007WFP does
<andrei-> that’s $289 refurb
<andrei-> in Dell Outlet store
