Hardware Based Firewall / Spam / Web Filters

I’m looking for good hardware based security appliance. So far I’ve talked to the guys at Astaro and their products look pretty nice. I just need to make sure that I’ve seen all the options.

IronPort
Barracuda
And then all of these

Anyone have any favorites?

My previous company bought an managed email appliance from Sophos. It has a slick interface, and comes standard with Sophos antivirus.

    worth checking out

  • All I know is SonicWalls and Watchdogs suck, in my personal experience. Barracuda’s area expensive, but pretty powerful the little bit I’ve played with them (they have a really nice interface for their spam blocking for clients). I love my smoothwall.org software firewalls, but if you do find a good hardware-based firewall, let me know as I need one, too.

I don’t use them but I have heard good things about the Barricuda. Jake up there said they are expensive but i haven’t found anything that isn’t pricy. When you do decide though you should put up a list of which ones you liked, prices, pro’s and con’s etc.. Just for the lazy ones like me who want someone else to do the hard work.

  • Snapgear/Cyberguard work pretty good and are cheap but it really depends on your needs, they are more office style products
