Next WebMonday = WebMonday + Tweetup?
Hi Guys! I wanted to take a few minutes to discuss our next WebMonday meetup.
We’ve done 10 meetups so far and while the number of attendees are modest I think the format has been very successful balancing the technical discussions with social interaction.
I feel that one of the reasons that the group has stayed fresh is that we are technologically agnostic, not a “PHP group” or a “RoR group” but a group that attracts web technologists and discusses any technology which is presented. So far we’ve had talks on the following topics; SEO, Ruby, Squeak/Smalltalk/Smalltalk, Unit Testing, OAuth, ColdFusion and SEO, Twitter, Database Versioning, and many other informal talks & discussions.
If you didn’t hear about the Palm Beach County Tweetup that happened on the 30th of June at Leila’s, you can get the lowdown here. It was a GREAT time. Over 100 tweeps showed up, some coming to our little town from as far away as the great city of Miami.
Now almost a month has gone by and in planning our next meetup I would like to propose that we take WebMonday to the next level and organize it to coincide with the next West Palm Tweetup.
What I would like to do is get Roxy’s to give us access to the whole upstairs – this way we can have the technical discussions in 10@2 and the “tweetup” crowd, beer and food over in Rome. Roxy’s will give us access to their AV setup so we’ll have the projector and sound in 10@2 and then we can get a bartenter over in Rome and I’m pretty sure we can get hooked up with food as well.
Since tweetups revolve largely around Social Media, the obvious theme of the upcoming Web Monday would be Social Media. I have already contacted a couple Social Media Douchebags Experts to see if they would be interested in talking to us.
So what does everyone think? I’m posting this over at my blog and will tweet about it as well.
Let’s get this party started!!!
