I’ve always liked M.R., he’s a focused businessman whose goals line up roughly with those of the the open source community.
Yesterday linspire annouced a partnership with Canonical to use the Ubuntu OS as the new base for Linspire (a no-brainer choice as far as I am concerned), which will have the added benefit(?) of giving current Ubuntu users access to the Click n’ Run repository.
In his latest “michael’s minute” he challenged Steve Jobs to back up his latest rant against DRM by starting to distribute MP3s on iTunes Music Store. He also encouraged Apple to port iTunes to Linux and offered to do the engineering “if engineering resources were an issue”
I just discovered Songbird, which totally rocks as far as a bloated music system goes. I use foobar2000 for my daily music needs, and think directories are perfect ways to organize your files, but it does offer some nice looking features. Far better than iTunes, which I only use when I need to buy some DRM’d music of iTunes Music Store ![]()
I wasn’t very impressed with this song in the tomb raider music video (what was with the flying elephants), but this version totally rocks!
How can they not when their confirmation emails read like this:
Your CDs have been gently taken from our CD Baby shelves with sterilized contamination-free gloves and placed onto a satin pillow.
A team of 50 employees inspected your CDs and polished them to make sure they were in the best possible condition before mailing.
Our packing specialist from Japan lit a candle and a hush fell over the crowd as he put your CDs into the finest gold-lined box that
money can buy.We all had a wonderful celebration afterwards and the whole party marched down the street to the post office where the entire town of Portland waved ‘Bon Voyage!’ to your package, on its way to you, in our private CD Baby jet on this day, Wednesday, August 30th.
I hope you had a wonderful time shopping at CD Baby. We sure did. Your picture is on our wall as “Customer of the Year”. We’re all exhausted but can’t wait for you to come back to CDBABY.COM!!
I was banging around Jonathan Coulton’s site and came on some must see zombie related stuff on Flickr and these two songs YouTube.
Go JC!
Just to keep any of you who are subscribed to my podcast feed around, here’s a nice little tune from Atomsplit.
D Sazster is also doing a podcast called Project 52, where he releases a song a week. Like what johnathan Coulton is doing over at his thing-a-week podcast.
My recording of music with which the recent eZconference opened, was requested by several people. I just found my USB cable and was able to get download the files and process them.

This was recorded with my iRiver H340 into raw WAV files thanks to the rockbox firmware. The microphone was the standard (noisy) compressor mic that comes with the iRiver. I amplified the volume using Audacity, but other than that no other effects or cleaning up work has been done. If anyone wants the 45mb wav file let me know.
I also don’t know the artists name, so if one of the organizers would comment here, then I’ll add it to the id3 tags of the mp3 file.
Adam Curry and his team at Podshow.com have been working around the clock to launch the new and improved version of the podshow system.
Slated for a July 4th “Liberate your Entertainment” release, the site has been replaced with several humorous “Please be Patient” flash videos.
I’m currently working on relaunching a major site, which has been in an “almost-ready” state for the last 3 months, so I totally understand the painful process of relaunching a site, and making sure all your bases are covered before you flip the switch. However, two days of downtime is a sign that you are nowhere near ready to launch and a lot of hacking is being done in the background which may get the site up, but will not benefit the product in the long run.
I was part of the beta testing team and ran some audits of the code (much of which is available as an opensource project on sourceforge), so I have no doubt that when podshow plus has made it through these growth pains it will rock big time.
Good luck with getting it up guys!
In other “is it up yet” news, I noticed that Ookles.com was up at Ookles.net, and is looking pretty slick, good luck with that launch as well!
Due to the abismal failure of Finland during previous Eurovision song contests, those clever Fins enlisted the help of the Klingons, who crashed the contest and brought the Eurovision song contest to Finland.
Seriously, this was one of the best Eurovisions in YEARS. I really enjoyed it. The quality of the music was better than usual, and the entertainment value of many of the acts was excellent. The only thing that really annoyed me was Maria Menounos and the continual screwups which seemed to worsen as then night progressed. I liked the new voting system, it made the show a lot shorter
Everyone is on about the political nature of the voting. I think that is just insane. Former Soviet republics voted for Russia, not because they missed their former overlords, but because the song was in a language they understood, and more than likely it had been playing on the radio non-stop for the past few months. Same with the former Yugoslavian countries giving each other 12 points, it’s not political it’s just that the people in those countries were familiar with the music/artists and voted for them.
The reason why England, France, and Germany did so bad is because they sucked, not because they people didn’t like them. I did feel bad for the French, they sent an amature singer/hairdresser and she totally tanked. Wasn’t eurovision an amature contest at one point?
If this Eurovision song contest said anything, it’s that people are fed up with the boring “commercially viable” music that is being fed to them on TV/Radio/Commercials. If it was up to me I would have voted for Lithuania, but I’m not entirely displeased with the final outcome.

Some FUNKY Metal. While obviously not for everyone, these guys have a pretty awesome sound.
Found these guys through Accident Hash Summer Time Speed Trap 2.
Danko Jones ROCKS! Did the German leg of their European tour this year… too bad I missed it. Well, they didn’t come near enough to me to catch them. Good stuff.
Every drop of rain that falls
in sahara desert says it all
It’s a miracleAll god’s creations great and small
The Golden Gate and the Taj Mahal
That’s a miracleTest tube babies being born
Mothers, fathers dead and gone
It’s a miracleWe’re having a miracle on earth
Mother nature does it all for us
The wonders of this world go on
The hanging gardens of babylon
Captain cook and Cain and Abel
Jimi hendrix to the tower of babel
It’s a miracleThe one thing we’re all waiting for
is peace on earth - an end to war
It’s a miracle we need - the miracleThe miracle we’re all waiting for today
If every leaf on every tree
could tell a story that would be
A miracleIf every child on every street
had clothes to wear and food to eat
That’s a miracleIf all God’s people could be free
to live in perfect harmony
It’s a miracleWe’re having a miracle on earth
Mother nature does it all for usOpen hearts and surgery
Sunday mornings with a cup of tea
Super powers always fighting
But Mona Lisa just keeps on smiling
It’s a miracleThe one thing we’re all waiting for
Is peace on earth and an end to war
It’s a miracle we need - the miracle
Peace on earth and end to war today
Merry Christmas!
